FAQ
Short answers on yearly bills, tax preparation and how the 50/30/20 buckets work.
How do I budget for yearly insurance renewals?
Divide the yearly premium by 12 and put that amount in needs each month, in a line you can call yearly bills. A homeowners and auto renewal of about $1,800 is $150 a month. When you compare a renewal, look at the deductible and the coverage limits together with the price. This page does not collect quotes or recommend a company.
Should tax preparation be in needs or wants?
Treat tax preparation like any other yearly bill. Households with freelance or rental income often pay a CPA for advisory work; others use software. Setting aside $20–$40 a month in savings covers either path. It is a planning choice, not a requirement to buy a particular service.
How do I save for annual tax filing costs in Japan?
Divide annual costs into monthly amounts. If a tax accountant or filing software costs ¥60,000 a year, setting aside ¥5,000 a month in savings prepares you for the payment when filing season arrives. This site does not file returns or refer you to a particular tax accountant.
